December 10th -December 15th Monday - SNOW DAY Tuesday - SNOW DAY Wednesday Learning Target: I can analyze the important events that led to the Civil War. Warm Up: Why was slavery such a contentious issue between the North and South? Explain.
Classes will finish notes from Friday if they need to.
Students will be provided with a reading about the differences between the North and the South. With the reading students will need to complete a cube showing the geographical, cultural, and economic differences between the North and South.
As a class we will review a brief PowerPoint on the differences between the North and the South.

Students will examine the attempts made to bring compromise and prevent war. Students will receive their Quarter 2 Hallway passes and TOC. They will be given the opportunity to set up their Quarter 2 Notebook.
Students will use a three-column chart to participate in a Think-Pair-Share.
Students are to answer the question, “Why did the colonist fight the Revolutionary war with the British?” As a class we will discuss their responses.
Students will then respond the following prompt, “Pretend you are a well-educated colonist, having just fought in the Revolutionary War. Given the reasons for war, how would you set up the new government? What features would it have in order to avoid the problems they faced with the British?” As a class we will discuss their responses.
Students will then be given a modified copy of the Articles of the Confederation and will be asked to determine the key functions and limitations of this new government.

Students will use guided notes to follow along with a PowerPoint Presentation on the problems our country faced following the American Revolution and our first government under the American Revolution. (Governing a New Nation)
